Biography:

As a double board-certified Nurse practitioner in Family Medicine and Mental Health I treat both adults and children. I tackle psychological as well as medical aspects by incorporating a integrative outlook beyond the limited psychiatric medications to explore the underlying biological or psychological issues. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, treatment-resistant depression, mood disorders, OCD, schizophrenia, PTSD, personality disorders, developmental traumas and non-overt traumas in adults and children.

A Healing process is an individualistic journey that requires mind body and soul connection. It cannot be rushed. My detailed integrative assessment includes detailed laboratory assessment to identify nutritional deficiencies, diagnostic tests to rule out organic etiologies, genetic testing for personalized psychiatry, standardized developmental scales to tract progress and talk therapy to conceptualize growth throughout the lifespan. This is followed by treatment plan design to strengthen therapeutic alliance with my clients and their families. Such holistic treatment plan incorporates sleep hygiene, exercise regimen, somatic therapies like acupuncture/yoga/sleep coaching, relaxation techniques, nutritional protocols, and psychotherapy including dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy. My training and collaboration with Dr Lagrou have allowed to offer treatments including Spravato and nonpharmacological treatments like TMS for treatment resistant depression. For a true healing to occur, therapy is an integral part of treatment. A patient can obtain both therapeutic aspects and medications for long term symptom remission during this therapeutic alliance.

A patient is both unique when it comes to psychiatric treatment plan and holistic when it comes to medication adjustments secondary to co-morbidities, screening side effects from psychiatric and non-psychiatric meds and non-psychiatric symptomatology. My unique experience as a small-town provider, has allowed me to practice and provide medical specialty care like Neurology, Rheumatology, Pain management, Movement disorder and Addiction Medicine secondary to limited healthcare access. Hence, this has allowed me to view symptomology in a holistic manner whether if its treatment resistant depression, working with multiple co-morbidities like MS or Parkinson’s, pediatric developmental psychiatry, or chronic inflammatory/pain processes or ADHD.

Nutritional psychiatry acknowledges complexity of mental health illnesses, highlights genetic and interpersonal factors , but also discuss the role of one’s diet in contributing to or hindering optimal mental health by targeting chronic inflammation, nutritional deficits. Depression and anxieties have deep rooted evidence in nutritional deficiencies, inflammatory markers that target the same receptors as the ones located in brain. I feel comfortable addressing such deficit’s due to my deeper understanding in the field of pharmacology (BSPS in pharmacology/toxicology) and my practice in both Family medicine and Psychiatry. A true integrative approach takes into account mind, body and clean soul that allows for personal growth and feeling of wellness towards a goal oriented lifestyle. This could mean ultimately being able to come off of medications for some or implementing new modalities that would have been left unexplored otherwise or being able to stay in remission with optimal maintenance medications.
